Bustin a move for Christmas

I’m fighting a head cold but happy. Christmas decor is bustin a move in my home once again. Garlands rockin, Christmas cards talkin, I’m heading into the season in style.

Yet this morning I struggled with what to write. Somber moments passed and no thoughts moved within my reach. They seemed to float on by like darkened ships in moonlit skies.

Christmas preparations hummed along sweetly until unfinished tasks brought my forward momentum to a screeching halt. Ā So much to do, so little time. I instantly felt like a weary pilgrim pressing my shoulder against a large boulder that blocked my wagon train’s path. With whole body thrust against granite, the rock only inches forward a fraction of the distance my boots dig into the soil. Perhaps this weekend, I mentally sigh, I’ll have time to think.

So I stack projects in an awkward order of proposed completion:

  • Finish decorating for Christmas
  • Order themes for self-hosted websites-my niece, brother-in-law, friend
  • Show them how to set up their websites
  • Work on book proposals

And somewhere in the midst of this life’s taffy pulling tension, a poem struggles to be born. I try to capture the words and images sliding through my mind along side the string of errands that extends like Santaā€™s Christmas list.

  • Pick up birthday and Christmas cards for nephew stationed in Qatar

Oh Prince of Peace

  • Call in hormone prescription

I hear the angels herald your coming

  • Pick up daughterā€™s package mailed from South KoreaĀ at UPS

As in that silent night so long ago

  • Student Study Team meeting this morning at 7:45 am

When all the world bustled around you

  • Drop of nephew’s card before READ 180 teachers meeting at 3:30 pm

Yet those God drew, hushed in your presence

  • Gather son’s needed business application items and send to him

A silent night of soulā€™s awakening

  1. Lovely thoughts this morning. It took me a second reading to go back and pick up on the poem in the mix. Hubby and I are also struggling with head cold since Wed. afternoon. Yuck! Hard to think when your head already feels full and about to explode. Blessings on your day, Jeanne

    1. duke, thanks for sharing the tip. I haven’t tried turning on music. I think it’s because my job, as a teacher, includes constant noise. So I savor silence when I’m home.
